Tweens are crazy
on: Wed 13 of Jun, 2007 [01:36 UTC] score: 0.60 Vote: 1 2 3 4 5

eekMy tween is getting to be downright unmanageable. She keeps on stealing things around the house and expects me to go to my husband to blame him for the stuff that is missing. I don't know why she feels the need. She is on Adderall XR and usually she isn't hungry at all...but lately she can't eat enough...junk food. They just drive me crazy. I'm sure it only gets harder!

Stealing and Lying
on: Fri 11 of May, 2007 [18:57 UTC] score: 0.60 Vote: 1 2 3 4 5

eek My daughter is eleven. I realize that she is a tween. But now she is stealing money from me. For two times in a week I caught her. But I'm sure it doesn't help that all the kids she hangs around with all are spoiled to death. She feels that she deserves the same thing. But how do I justify to her that we don't buy her everything because we love her?? I don't know...I can't even look at her today because she stole from me. When I was a kid I would respect my mom's boundaries. I just feell they don't do that now.

My daughter has been lying too lately, just when she is afraid of getting into trouble. I tried talking to her about it and the importance of telling the truth, and I'm not sure if she gets it! It is definitely frustrating... but I'm not sure I've found what works!

my daughter's bad habit
on: Sun 22 of Apr, 2007 [21:13 UTC] score: 0.60 Vote: 1 2 3 4 5

My daughter is eleven years old and she has this really bad habit lately. She likes to lie. And I mean not about just the little things anymore. She has ADHD and she is responsible for taking her own medication. SHe knows she needs to take it everyday. So today we were at the pet store looking at the dog's and I noticed she was acting weird, like not listening to me when I was talking to her. So we had to go the washroom because my son needed to go and she was getting him all hyper. I asked her right out..."Did you take your pill today?" She kinda stumbled and said..."Yes." I asked her again, "Jenn, did you take your pill?" She answered, "I forgo...It was an accident." I just walked away. I can't believe that after we had a talk with her about the lying she just did it to my face again. (sigh) eek

My boy is just learning this one. But at the moment he is easy to read because he simply can“t look me in the eye when I know he is lying. Typically he does it too to avoid trouble, but it verges on the ridiculous! For example, did you bite your brother? No, but his leg was between my teeth and I closed my mouth around it !!! Enough said! We just keep on trying to tell him the value of truth and when he does own up to something , we try and make him feel good about it and at the same time realise he has done something wrong, which is a very tricky one!

It's nice to know I'm not alone. Tonight she came home with makeup on. I wondered where she got it from. She played with her hair a bit and then she said she got it from my stash. Then she said that her and the kids went off the school property. I called the school right away. With all the problems we have been having at that school and then this happens. eek

My daughter is starting to do that too. I think they are most inclined to do it to avoid getting into trouble. Sometimes we find we have to nudge her a bit, and tell her we just want the truth even if it's bad. At least little ones aren't very good liars! Mine always does the same thing yours did.. pauses and stumbles a bit before answering.
