Duck, Brown Rice and Pear Homemade Baby Food Recipe
Homemade Baby Food Rich in Protein, Fiber, Iron and Antioxidants
By: Kelby Carr on: Sat 02 of Jun, 2007 [14:45 UTC] (2215 reads)
Brown rice makes a healthy ingredient in homemade baby food

The homemade baby food provides a mix of health benefits. The duck is rich in iron and protein and the fat content is not a concern for babies who need it. The brown rice is full of fiber and antioxidants like manganese, plus it helps with the synthesis of fatty acids. The pear provides additional fiber, as well as antioxidants like vitamin C to protect agains free radicals. Here is a homemade baby food recipe featuring duck, brown rice and pear.

If you are introducing any of these ingredients for the first time, be sure to find out how to introduce new baby foodsexternal link first. This is a baby food better for more advanced babies who are on Stage 3 jarred foods, or who are accustomed to baby foods with multiple ingredients and small chunks.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup duck breast, cooked and diced
  • 1 cup brown rice, cooked until soft
  • 2 cups peeled, cored, diced and cooked pear
  • 1/2 cup liquid (breast milk is best, or formula, water or juice)

Preparation

  • Cook all of your ingredients. Roast or grill your duck, boil your rice according to the package directions, and peel, core, dice and boil the pear.
  • Drain the rice and pear and place in a bowl. Add the duck. Allow to cool to the touch in the refrigerator.
  • Toss all ingredients and a baby food mill or blender. Add the liquid (and you can add more or less depending on the consistency you are seeking). Blend or process until desired thickness.
  • Serve some fresh, and put the rest into ice cube trays to freeze and transfer to freezer bags or into baby food jars (leaving room for expansion) that are then frozen.
