With the holidays rapidly approaching, I was excited to have the opportunity to review the beautifully written and illustrated children’s storybook Tiny Baby Jesus. Sent to me by Planned Television Arts, author Dandi Daley Mackall’s PR firm, Tiny Baby Jesus is perfect for reminding our little ones what the Christmas season truly is about.

Tiny Baby Jesus Pros

A simple rhyming story, Tiny Baby Jesus is a hardcover book that will appeal to the toddler in the house. Its message, however, is also appropriate for older children. The book recounts the birth of Jesus and also touches on his life as an adult, ultimately leading to the resurrection.

The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. Illustrator Julia Noonan used soft earth tones to bring the story to life, and there are animals on almost every page – a surefire hit with my kiddos. The details on each page – from the tools Jesus uses as a carpenter to care with which the animals are drawn as they watch over the baby in the manger – bring the story to life.

Tiny Baby Jesus Cons

The story flips back and forth between Jesus’ birth and his actions as an adult. Although my older children followed the story with no problems, I wasn’t completely sure that my almost-three-year-old was following as easily. I found myself saying things like, “And here’s Jesus when he’s all grown up.” It didn’t ruin the story by any means, but it did interrupt the flow of the rhyming text.

Tiny Baby Jesus Description

This holiday season, as many families will have to cut back on gifts and extras, children can be reminded to make Jesus their favorite present this Christmas with Tiny Baby Jesus by award-winning author Dandi Daley Mackall, illustrated by Julia Noonan. The rhyming picture book with moving illustrations celebrates the great contributions Jesus made throughout his life, starting with the Christmas miracle of his birth.

While reading Tiny Baby Jesus together this Christmas season, children and families can celebrate the gift of Jesus from head to tiny toes. As they turn the pages, they will discover the wonder of hands that develop into those of a carpenter and swaddled shoulders that grow to carry the weight of all mankind. Readers can share in the humble birth of tiny baby Jesus while remembering the life and teachings of the grown savior.
