Work From Home Moms
Think Confident, Be Confident - Book Review

Mom Types - Work From Home Moms
All parents experience doubt in their lives. As a work-at-home mom, I know how stifling this doubt can be – am I giving my kids enough attention; am I working hard enough; am I keeping up with my household responsibilities; does my husband get enough of my attention? It seems like a never-ending battle.
I recently received a review copy of, Think Confident, Be Confident: A Four-Step Program to Eliminate Doubt and Achieve Lifelong Self-Esteem, by Leslie Sokol and Marci Fox. The book offered some valuable lessons for anyone experiencing recurring doubt and decreased self-esteem.
Four-Step Program
The four-step program outlined in the book involves a process based on cognitive therapy. The authors walk you though these steps:- Labeling doubt – Identifying realistic concern vs. doubt.
- Questioning doubt – Learning how to deconstruct doubt and implement the ABCs of doubt.
- Rethinking doubt – Analyzing and rewriting your internal and external rules.
- Taking action – Expanding and maintaining confidence, beating procrastination, and acting confident.
My Biggest Take-Aways from the Book
When I began reading the book, I immediately appreciated the references to doubt being a "false alarm." The authors clearly explained how doubt exists in all of us, and the commonality of their explanation helped me avoid a feeling of failure, which can be common with doubt. This excerpt further explains:
"Doubt is always inside of us waiting for stress to push it to the surface. For some of us, doubt whispers in our ear. For others, doubt screams. Regardless, once doubt surfaces, it colors how we think, how we feel and how we act."
I also really enjoyed the interactive, workbook-style exercises. Having this consistent opportunity for self-analysis gave me a chance to step outside of the book and think through how each facet of doubt impacted my own life.
The section on acting confident also resonated with me. I firmly believe confidence is a huge precipitating factor of success, and if you begin by exhibiting confidence, you will eventually absorb it into who you are.
