The Stapler Caper Review

Mom Buying Guide - Childrens Books
My children love to draw and write their own books, creating stories, coloring and, well, anything involving paper, pencils and veritable drawing apparatuses. So when I showed them the book The Stapler Caper, my children became so excited, so much in fact, my 8-year-old daughter squeaked like a girl. Or maybe she squeaked because she is a girl. Whatever ;)
The Stapler Caper is a story in which your child is the author. Using the characters "The Do-Writes" (the names and characters are beyond cute), your child creates what they think is happening by following the illustrations and designing the story in the blank lines below the pictures on each page. They are the author!I have to stop here for a second and let you read about these characters. If this isn't enough to fall in love with this book, well, then, I won't be your friend anymore, so nyah!
Ryan E. Racer™ plays write field for his baseball team and gets the lead out to erase crime. Bea Sharp™ corrects the wrongs of the world, loves making figure 8s while she skates, and dancing ballet where she is tops at staying on pointe. Sketch the Janitor™ might not be just a janitor, where he used to work for the President of Pencilvania Avenue. Are you dying of cuteness yet? No? Okay, here's more:
The Pencipal™ has a spirit for knowledge that can't be broken who always gets to the point. This one I had to quote straight from the site. It is entirely too cute for words:
The Evil Ruler™ - Don’t let his dashing good looks fool you. His previous jobs as Knuckle Whacker and Spitball Flinger prove that he is not an upstanding guy. Often, he has been just inches away from being locked up. Somehow he always manages to find the skinny way out. When it comes to evil rulers, no one else can measure up.
Good grief the cuteness does not end. There are more characters than what I listed here, I just had to give you an idea of how spectacular this book is. The thought that went behind the book's creation, genius. These people know kids, or at least, they know my kids.
The first page is the 'author' page, where your child can draw their picture and write their name, age, and a blurb about themselves. It then goes on to introduce you to the adorable characters, and off your child goes on their adventure of writing what they think is happening! Each page is beautiful illustrated with situations your child must determine and write about. The pages are nice and thick, and easily erasable, should your child make a mistake or two or want to rewrite the story over and over again.
It can be purchased in two ways, with the book and character pencil, or as a gift set (my personal favorite!)
If you visit their website, you can learn more about the Do-Writes and print their coloring pages out to color and write about them!
Overall, my kids are loving this book. Heck, WE ALL are loving this book! Thank goodness the pages are erasable because they keep taking turns writing the book over and over again! Such a neat idea! Totally earns our coveted "Crazy Family of 8" Stamp of Approval!
Love it? Get The Stapler Caper here for your budding writers!
