My husband likes to start every morning with a cup of coffee. Until now, he's been making a small pot of coffee and dumping most of it down the drain or trying to save it for a second day. Neither of these options is ideal, but he really likes that morning cup, and a daily a convenience store run is not in our budget. The Melitta Ready Set Joe has solved our problem.

The Melitta Ready Set Joe is a very simple device. At first glance, the Ready Set Joe is nothing more than a plastic funnel sitting on top of a coffee cup. I was dubious about it, but we tried it anyway.

To use the Ready Set Joe , you put a #2 filter inside the funnel (Ready Set Joe comes with a small sample pack of fileters.), add a scoop of coffee or loose tea, pour hot water in, wait, and then pour more hot water in. That's it. Really.

What we like about Ready Set Joe

Ready Set Joe is perfect for its purpose – to brew one cup of coffee or tea, quickly and simply. My husband's coffee was perfect. He said it tasted exactly the same as what comes out of his coffee pot. My tea was a bit weaker than I prefer, but really okay.

Ready Set Joe is inexpensive. You can buy it with a ceramic mug or with a plastic travel mug, and the set is well under $10.

What we didn't like about Ready Set Joe

The Ready Set Joe is not designed for tea. As I mentioned above, it made an okay cup of tea, but it would have been better if it had steeped a bit longer.

 

You have to refill the funnel twice because it isn't the same size as the mug. This second step bugged my husband, but not enough that he stopped using the Ready Set Joe. He's still using it in the morning and in the evening two weeks after we received it.

Be aware that the Ready Set Joe isn't going to replace your full-sized coffee pot. If you need more than a cup or two, you won't want to use the Ready Set Joe. In that case, a full-sized coffee pot would be better.

The bottom line on Ready Set Joe

I would buy a Ready Set Joe, and I would recommend it for any coffee drinker on your gift list. In fact, I think I'm going to buy one for my Dad for Christmas.
