Let's face it. Sure, we may look younger than our grandparents at the same age. Maybe some of us even act younger, or dress younger (please stop doing that. Dress your age). But our bodies know better. I've watched the 20-something and younger 30-something moms in their lean, velour jogging suits, chasing their children around the playground. Yes, I've watched that. From my comfortable seat on a bench, resting my aching, 40-something bones.

Since I started working out regularly this past spring after an eighteen month break I have struggled with wearing the old workout clothes I had worn years ago.  My weight was also lower at that time, making the pants too tight for my comfort level.  The gym I belong to is located in Glendale, California.  Mervyn's went out of business at the Glendale Galleria and The Americana was completed.  I always bought my clothing there and did not really see any stores at the new center that were in my price range.

The news is looking grim for those of us 40-Something Moms about to enter Menopause.  Just this past week lung cancer has been associated with hormone replacement therapy, showing a greater risk, especially for smokers.  This now adds to the risk of breast cancer, stroke and heart attack for women who go the route with hormone replacement therapy, known as HRT.

I have mentioned that I headed back to the gym a few months ago.  Thus far I have kept at it from three to four days per week.  I started with thirty minutes since it had been eighteen months from my last workout at the same location.  I moved up to forty-five minutes to one hour for several weeks before amping it up to ninety minutes last week.

I have previously mentioned that I have lived with eczema my whole life.  This skin condition has become worse duing my forties, so I have made lifestyle changes to make sure the summer season which means heat does not impact my hands, legs, arms and face with eczema breakouts.

I have always been concerned with the ingredients in products I use. When I learned of the Mom It Forward Fundraising Campaign for Basa Body (named after the women of Mombasa) I checked out their site to learn more about these products that use organic virgin coconut oil from wild coconuts harvested along the coast of Kenya.  Their ingredients are 100% natural and hypo-allergenic.

I noticed this sentence in the description of the Basa Body Stick, "Try it to sooth skin irritated by eczema or psoriasis".  I recently received the Basa Body Natural Cocounit Oil Body Lotion and the Basa Body Stick.  The Body Lotion is very rich in a white cream that glides on the skin.  This worked well after a shower and throughout the day, especially before a workout at the gym on my knees and elbows that are dry with cracked skin.  The scent is a mild coconut that is not overpowering, a nice subtle notice that lingers for awhile.

This body lotion also contains Citric Acid, Purified Water, Stearic Acid, Vitamin E, Rosemary Oil Extract, Glycerin and Emulsyfing Wax NF.  The body stick has a small amount of natural beeswax to the oil.  The stick is  a small healing balm.  At first I could not figure out how to get the contents out of the stick so I used it like deodorant and rolled it onto my arm.  My arms have scratch marks from when I scratch in my sleep.  They are itchy at various times of the day and night.  This only happens during warm weather.  The Basa Body Stick took away the itch with one swipe on my arm.

I realized a few hours later that my arm was healing nicely and not red and oozy.  The next day I dipped my finger into the tube to put some on the back of my neck.  It was exposed to the sun the previous day at a fair, feeling bumpy and irritated.  Although the stick is a bit greasy it worked out well.  It is recommended to store the stick in the refrigerator and I certainly can agree with this.  The stick is located in a clear tube that does get sticky after touching it.

I highly recommend these products for aging and itchy skin types.  The Basa Body Lotion is an anti-aging formula with natural antioxidants.  This contains six fluid ounces and should last a few weeks.  After some uses my container is down  two inches from the top.  On average I go through a tube of lotion in one weeks time.

Visit Basa Body to purchase their products.  A great gift option for Mother's Day or Birthday.

I attended a free health expo here in Los Angeles yesterday to take advantage of the health screenings.  We are prone to some health risks as we glide through our forties.  One of these is diabetes.  Vision loss is another issue we may face during this stage of our lives.  There might be other concerns depending on the medications you are taking along with their side effects.

You may have been lucky as a teen to avoid acne, but by the time you are midway into your forties you may be dealing with adult acne, psoriasis, eczema, graying hair, brittle nails, hair loss, dry itchy skin, moles and/or achy joints.  I forgot to mention the fading memory that comes and goes as you go about your daily life.
