Living in a fairly secluded home in a relatively small town with two small children can make it difficult to make friends. Having little in common with the women who do live in your small town makes it just plain hard...and not having reliable transportation or any extra cash makes it darn near impossible. I don't know about you, but the internet hasn't exactly caught on for the most part out here. People still look at me I've grown a horn in the middle of my head when I tell them I'm a blogger or a social media consultant. They don't "get" Twitter and don't want to...they might have a Facebook page and use Google to search information. Might.

As part of the training one should be given before moving to Rural America, it is my firm belief someone somewhere should equip parents with the information they will need to survive a brutal winter.  Perhaps if they offered this kind of training maybe you would have a chance of survival when you find yourself snowed/iced into your home for days on end with bored, hungry kids.

In the spirit of Fall and Halloween, my family and I spent our weekend decorating our home.  Being from a predominately farming community we are always aware of the effects our choices have on the environment.  We decorated our home with pumpkins and a plethora of gourds, some gorgeous mums, set out some fun scarecrows and added some hay bales (which will cover our garden after fall). After spending the weekend in nature, I wanted to share with you some ideas on how to make your Halloween more eco-friendly.

Now, you all know I'm from rural America and if you met last weekend you know more specifically where I live.  While I live within an hour of a fairly large (or so I thought) city, I simply was not prepared for Chicago's size or beauty.  I had been warned from well meaning people in my town that Chicago natives were rude and the city would fairly eat me alive.  I was not swayed.  When else would I have the chance to see Chicago? Admittedly though, I was worried. How would I find my way around this city? How would  I be treated by Chicago natives?

I love Kindergarten!  I mean it, not only has kindergarten been a great place for KG to learn, it's F. U. N.!!!  I've had the pleasure of attending many fun and fantastic kindergarten activities over the past year, but my favorite thus far has to be last Friday.  Fun in the Sun Day. Doesn't the name just bring to mind smiles and laughter?  Oh, it was great.

One of my favorite things about living in the country is the ability to own a sizeable amount of land for a reasonable amount of money.  On that land you have the freedom to create any kind of statement or outdoor world that you please.  Spring is the perfect time to add color and life into your landscape while enjoying the weather and time with your family.

Since the weather is finally starting to show signs of warming, our family decided to hit up the zoo this weekend.  Our family purchases a "Dual Family Pass" each year to the Louisville Zoo/Louisville Science Center.  When bought together, the "dual family pass" gains us year round entry to both at a decent discount.  We get our money's worth soon after purchase as our family are ardent fans of both science and animals.

This was our family's first year to participate  in Earth Hour.  I planned plenty of unplugged activities for our family to participate in today and got plenty of cleaning done.  After an early morning grocery stop for me, it was back home to spend some quality time with my family.  I also wanted KG to understand what we were doing and why it was important for us to participate in Earth Hour.

If there is one sight that runs rampant through the lives of many rural living people it's cows.  It's a common sight, right up there with corn/tobacco fields I am sure.  However, there have been some event taking place recently that have led me to believe the cows are taking over!  They have planned and are now executing a cow revolution. At least that is the way it seems in my small town.
