Dear Peppers and Pollywogs Book Review

Mom Buying Guide - Womens Books
Four kids means a lot of birthdays, in all my years of being a mom, I've planned and carried out 30 birthday parties and before this year is over, there is one more left to go. With all these parties, you'd think I'd be a pro right? Wrong! Every year I tackle new questions and issues because as the kids get older, there is always a new party challenge to think about and decide on.

When I was asked to review Dear Peppers and Pollywogs: What Parents Want to Know About Planning Their Kids' Parties, by Lisa Kothari, I was excited but skeptical because, I doubted it could really answer all of parents' questions
Wrong again, Lisa breaks the book down for nearly every party issue and condundrum a parent can encounter.
The book is divided into short chapters so you aren't bogged down with a lot of information all at once. Better yet, if you only have questions about certain issues, such as goody bags; there's a section for it!
The book is mapped out in question and answer style that I found similar to the "What to Expect" book series I read early in my parenting journey. I love this method of reading because if something doesn't apply to me, I am able to skip on the section or question that I feel best applies to my situation.
Lisa also offers up ways to deal with family, invitations and even joint parties. Nearly no stone is left unturned her book and no challenge is left unanswered.
The one thing that was reiterated throughout the book was that parents should relax and enjoy the day. I'm definitely a firm believer in this as well.
While I loved reading the book and picking up tips for my younger kids, there wasn't as much information for the teen set as I would have liked, considering I'm now entering into this territory. However, Lisa does provide a section for general questions for kids of all ages and gives some information for parents entering the turbulent teen years when all the rules seem to change and I'm glad that I will be able to apply some of that advice to this year's party for my oldest.
Dear Peppers and Pollywogs is entertaining and an easy read. It's the perfect gift for a new parent or a parent of young children when birthday parties are all the rage and kids look forward to a yearly party. Lisa also has a website that parents can visit for furhter birthday information, aptly named Peppers and Pollywogs .
This is one resource that is long overdue as birthday parties take on life of their own and parents everywhere struggle to make each one memorable without losing their sanity or breaking the bank.
