Toddlers

Toddler parenting can be exciting and challenging. Toddlers are caught between the needy baby and the independent preschooler. Their vocabulary and physical skills are quickly developing, and their personalities really start to shine at this time. They can also truly hone and refine those temper tantrum skills. Having to use a public restroom for yourself when you are out with the kids is quite a chore.  When they are infants, you at least know they are restrained in the carrier and can’t touch anything yucky or stick their heads under the stall wall to peak next door.  And by the time they’ve reached preschool age, they are potty trained themselves and know all about the “rules” of public restrooms; a simple reminder to not touch anything and not bother anyone else who may be in there is all that’s needed.

How to Get Your Child to Sleep

Mom Stages - Toddlers

It has been a very busy day, and it is finally bedtime. For the past half an hour, your baby has been rubbing his eyes and whining. These are signs you recognize, as it is time for him to go to bed. You carry him up to his room, kiss him good night and reassure him that you will be short distance away. You lay him down in the crib, cover him with his warm blanket and give him his favorite brown teddy bear. "Good night, little one," you say as you turn off the light and close the door.

Make Your Own Granola

making granola

We are always looking for ways to include our kids in household chores and activities and I got this idea from chatting with Kellie, from Chicks With Kidz. She had a great idea/suggestion to include my kiddos in making our own variations of trail mix.

We eat granola regularly for breakfast and have even made our own granola bars, but I have always been the one mixing it up! With her encouragement my one year old now has a way to "help mommy" cook breakfast! Thanks Kellie!

Teaching Toddlers to do Household Chores

Mom Stages - Toddlers

I never set out to give my toddlers chores to do. You might be thinking, “That’s too young! Toddlers can’t do chores!” That’s what I thought too, that is until I was constantly tripping over my boys while trying to do my own household chores.

Taking a Toddler to Disney World, Pt 2In preparing for our upcoming vacation to Disney World, I realized how many decisions there are to make when you are traveling with a toddler. Although my focus is on Disney World as I plan my own trip many of the following decisions can apply as you plan to take your toddler on a vacation to any theme park, or distant destination.

Developing Toddler Motor Skills

Mom Stages - Toddlers

If you have a toddler, you already know that he or she is a little bundle of endless energy!  My twin boys turned two several months ago, and they have been non-stop action since they learned to walk.  There is never a dull moment!  It's been a long time since I've had a toddler in the house and I had forgotten how quickly they grow and how much they learn during this toddler stage.

Helping a Child Overcome a Fear of Dogs

Mom Stages - Toddlers

It seems inevitable that at one time or another a child will have an unpleasant run-in with a dog.  When my twin boys were about 18 months old, their first encounter with a dog was not pleasant for them.  The dog was fairly small, but very energetic and ran straight over to them and started jumping up on them.  After that experience it was months before they could even look at another dog again.
