When I Realized I Was Raising a Hillbilly

Mom Stages - Preschoolers

As soon as we knew we were leaving Chicago and moving to the land of Dixie back in 2003, we started joking how our future kids would have a Southern "twang" when they spoke.  But Kate was just 15 months old and barely speaking by the time we moved to southern NH, so the joke became the Bostonian lack of use of the 18th letter of the alphabet.

One of the most amusing parts of our first exposure to "the school years" has been watching crushes develop at this young age.

It was clear just a month into the school year that Kate had a little crush on a boy named P. I could tell by the way she talked about him and the nice things she said about him that she felt he was a special boy. As the holidays came and went, she stopped specifically bringing him up or pointing out what he said or did in class. I thought her crush had fizzled out.
