The summer is biting at our heels, which means our children will be also. For some, school is already out, but I still have a few coveted days of "serenity" before the spawn take firm and constant hold of every day of the next 3ish months. I feel fear. I feel excitement.

I NEED my girlfriend time. Yes, I used all capitals. My girlfriends help give me perspective on life. They give comfort, support and sometimes even a good little kick in the tush if I need it. My heart needs time with "my girls".

I write this half-encouraged and 90% not encouraged. Just when a mom thinks she's made some headway.... Kablooey! There is another stage, another "crisis", another "issue", another decision... More and more I am finding that there is no end; no ultimate "victory" in motherhood. Our job never ends. Ever.

I went on a run with a couple of friends recently. We are all moms with children ranging in ages from 4 to 12. We run together 1 to 2 times a week. Though our running-time conversation is not dominated by the fact that we are moms, of course the topics of motherhood, stories of our children, and issues with our children do come up.
