Let's face it. Life is busy these days. From the moment those little ones enter the world, your schedule is crammed full of activities from breastfeeding to shopping to diaper-changing to playing to soccer practice to ballet practice to... whew! Sound familiar? With all this on your plate, it's hard to find time to take a shower let alone clean your house, and if give the choice... you'd probably choose the shower.
As a housekeeping editor, I am always keeping an eye out for the latest, greatest products for my home. As a mom, I want them to be user-friendly, environmentally-friendly, and preferably olfactory-friendly (meaning: it has to smell good!). I happened to find all three when I discovered Gold Canyon's Homeology Floor - Lavender Eucalyptus Sweet Orange.
Just this week, my husband and I have decided to put our house on the market for sale. It was a painful decision, as we built this home together and absolutely love it, but we are in a position of our home losing value due to not-so-restricting deed restrictions. Almost as painful is the realization that I'll have to get my home in "show-ready" condition. Luckily, this isn't my first rodeo in home selling so I know what I need to do. Not all of you have this experience though, so I'm sharing my tips with you. Here's how to get your home ready for that realtor listing!
Got kids?
Then you've got clutter, guaranteed.
While our children are amazing little creatures who fill our lives with joy, they are also amazingly good at filling our lives with stuff. It starts simply enough with diapers, onesies, and bottles, then progresses to clothes, toys, books, more toys, and of course, every piece of paper that they've colored or drawn on since birth. Over time, our children continue to accumulate new things while everything else either gets outgrown forgotten, and it can create a cluttered home. Here are some tips to help you escape the clutter trap.
If there's one thing I can say about closets, it's that they usually have doors for a reason. You know what I'm talking about. Guests coming over for dinner? "Quick, kids! Hide the toys in the closet!" Laundry still in baskets? "Put them in the closet and close the door!" Mother in law stopping in for a visit? "The closets! Put it all in the closets!!"
If you're like me, every encounter of your life leaves you with some receipt, invoice, or other document as evidence of its occurrence. And if you're also like me, you have no idea how long you're supposed to keep up with all the paperwork. I decided to research this so I could finally know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em when it comes to your vital documents.
As the new Housekeeping Editor for Type-A Mom, I wanted to introduce myself properly.
As mothers, we want to assure the cleanest and healthiest environments for our children. This is especially true in light of the recent swine influenza (flu) outbreak, which is making parents take a second look at not only their personal infection control habits but also the infection control methods used in their homes.
You know the scene. There you are, minding your own business, folding your children's laundry - those tiny tees, those twirly skirts, those wee little socks - when... BAM!
You see it - a stain. You hold up the item in disbelief as you scream "Nooooooooooooo!"
