Grandmothers
Getting fit and staying fit is something I have struggled with my whole life. As a teenager, I always carried a little weight in my stomach, though I was small and weighed 125 lbs. when I graduated high school. As I've gotten older, the battle of the bulge is more than a battle, it's a war. With my thyroid being low, I now weigh more than I ever have and it's harder than ever to get the weight off. In light of my husband's recent mild heart attack, however, we are slowly but surely changing our eating habits and exercising regularly.
I am a fairly young grandmother, 44, soon to be 45 in the fall. I often get told I don't look old enough to be a grandma, but let me tell you, my body is beginning to feel it!
Each day, as my grandson grows, the bond between us grows as well, and as it does, it amazes me all the more. When he was first talking, I absolutely loved it when I would walk in the room and he would exclaim with all the enthusiasm, "Hi Nana!". Melted my heart every time and still does. What amazes me even more, however, is his relationship with "Papa Jeff", my husband.

If you are a grandparent of teenage children, you know and can see the differences in today's culture as opposed to the way things were when we were growing up. I was having a conversation with a gal from church who is a few years older than I and we were remarking how different the world is today than it was 25 to 30 years ago. Here are some of the differences we talked about.
Being a grandma, or Nana, is one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had! Fortunately for me, my grandkids only live in a town 30 miles away, so I get to see them often and be a part of their lives as they grow up. But, how do you create that bond with your grandkids if you live hours or hundreds of miles away?
As a Christian and a grandmother, I feel it's my responsibility to help my grandsons develop their relationship with Jesus. My daughter and her husband are very active in their church, but I still feel it's important for me to help guide and develop their faith, as well. How can we, as grandparents, do that? Here are some suggestions I use and recommend.
Do you think your grandkids are the cutest things in the whole wide world?! I do! Those little ones are amazing! They are smart, funny, courageous, bold, shy, a handful and just pure joy. My oldest grandson is 2 and says and does the cutest things in the world. I'm sure your grandchildren do super cute things too and we'd all like to hear about them, so feel free to leave a comment.
I love talking about my grandsons and being fairly new at the grandparenting stage myself, I am learning how to nurture and grow their God-given gifts and talents. I thought it would be a good idea to share my thoughts and experiences here on Type-A Mom, and then get some feedback from you on how you help to nurture and grow your grandchild's God-given gifts and talents.
