In my line of work, I spend a LOT of time on the web. Some of that time is spent browsing forums and support sites looking for answers to issues that I, or someone else might be having. The web is full of excellent info. Usually if there is a technical problem, you can find a solution on the web. But that is not always the case.
Keeping your computer running smoothly is very important. If that is not done, your shiny new fast computer can soon start to feel like an old cranky one. There are a few things that you can do to ensure that your computer is always running at it's best without having to consult an expert. Just a few easy steps can make a world of difference.
In the last article, I covered purchasing and setting up a router to get your home network started. Now we will cover getting your computers ready to be networked.
Ok, I admit that I just learned who Ada Lovelace was for the first time today. I probably learned about her in school at some point. But you know how we forget that information once we grow up, right? :) @jeffreyhaas sent me a "Happy Ada Lovelace Day" message on Twitter so I quickly jumped on Wikipedia to find out what the heck he was talking about, and I was happy that I did.
This subject is one of the questions that I get a lot: "How do I setup a network at home?" Most families these days have a least one desktop computer. As your children get older, or if you and your spouse both work, you may also have another desktop in the home, or a couple of laptops. If this is the case, with very little investment and a little know how, you can easily setup a home network to share documents, music, photos, and even your printers. I will break this up into several articles so it's not too much info at once.
